Our Story
What makes a garden come alive? Care, curiosity, and listening to the rhythms of the land — guiding every space to thrive naturally and beautifully.

Rooted in Expertise, Guided by Artistry
Welcome, I am Janine Williams, founder of Violet Crow, a small family business shaping gardens across Vancouver and the North Shore. Gardening has always been part of my family’s story. My grandmother, Violet, inspired generations of gardeners, and it was my mother who guided me directly. She taught care, patience, and precision. Grandma Violet continues to enjoy her garden at 103.

Crows have long been part of these gardens — curious, intelligent, and ever-present — a reminder that the land has its own rhythm. This mix of family legacy and the watchful presence of crows inspired the name Violet Crow.
For nearly two decades, I have worked in horticulture, design, and garden stewardship across Vancouver, contributing to reputable firms and award-winning teams. I began my career as an archaeologist, spending over a decade exploring pristine forests and studying the flora and fauna. This work taught me to read landscapes like living histories — noticing what lies beneath the surface and how time leaves its mark. Gradually, I realized my true passion was caring for living ecosystems, both above and below the soil. I redirected my path to horticulture and design, completing formal training in both, and bringing discipline, creativity, and a careful eye to every space.
Violet Crow provides horticultural care, botanical design, and consulting. Cultivating beauty, balance, and biodiversity — one West Coast garden at a time.
Thoughtful gardens begin with thoughtful dialogue.
